Plans for significant Cumbria solar ranch trigger objections

A suggested solar ranch in Cumbria the size of 70 football pitches has drawn dozens of arguments from citizens.

High Rigg Solar Limited has submitted plans to Westmorland and Furness Council for the advancement on farming land at Calthwaite, near Penrith.

The company said the job is essential to meet renewable resource targets and help deal with climate change.

Planning records verified the site would rest beside Skelton Pasture Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the Cumbrian Marsh Fritillary Unique Area of Conservation.

The programmer said the website contains “lower quality agricultural land” and included: “This is specifically the sort of website that ought to be proactively advertised by the council in order to aid fulfill the UK &# 8217; s renewable energy creating targets.”

But the BBC reports some homeowners, have raised issues about the loss of farmland, wildlife disruption and the visual influence on the local landscape.

Skelton Church Council has also objected, pointing out web traffic concerns throughout building.
